In total, Statkraft is investing SEK 1 million and 3,000 tonnes of rock crushers in strengthening the erosion protection in Granö.

The company is liable for maintenance, as raising and lowering water levels wears on the shoreline.

- It is a large project where we drive up about 75 flats with rock crushers that a wheel loader and excavator takes care of and strengthens the cape where there are tree huts in Granö, says Sture Andersson who is operation and maintenance manager for Statkraft's facilities in Umeälven and Skellefteälven.

Northern Sweden needs more electricity

According to Statkraft, more renovations may be needed along the watercourses in the coming years as the government this summer decided on a national plan for reconsideration of hydropower to modern environmental conditions.

At the same time, a report from the Norrbotten Region shows that northern Sweden needs more electricity in the coming years due to large industrial investments, such as the battery factory in Skellefteå.

This means that it will not be possible to export as much electricity to the south as before.

Swedish Radio has reported on this.

But according to Statkraft, it is not possible to expand hydropower much more.
