Health authorities in the country have called for a seasonal flu vaccine for this year, to prevent its complications, and to reduce pressure on health services, especially with its symptoms similar to those of the emerging corona virus, which may cause a state of fear and anxiety among community members. The Ministry of Health and Community Protection launched the annual national awareness campaign against seasonal influenza, under the slogan "Protect Yourself .. Protect Your Community", which is organized in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) and the Dubai Health Authority.

The campaign aims to raise health awareness among all members of society about the importance of vaccination against seasonal influenza, and to raise awareness among health workers and train them on the best international practices in this field.

The campaign, which coincides with the "Covid-19" pandemic, continues until the end of January 2021, during which health workers are educated and their competencies raised through scientific and training lectures on the most important modern methods for preventing seasonal influenza and avoiding its risks, as well as targeting community members with awareness guidelines about The disease, its complications and methods of prevention, in addition to providing the vaccine on the widest extent to achieve comprehensive coverage, with an emphasis on the readiness of health centers to receive those wishing to be vaccinated in accordance with the highest precautionary measures and preventive measures.

For his part, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Centers and Clinics Sector at the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, Dr. Hussein Abdulrahman Al-Rand, confirmed that the ministry has provided 200,000 vaccines during the current season, in addition to the vaccines provided by various health authorities at the state level.

Al-Rand pointed out that the ministry provided the vaccine for free to citizens and specific groups of residents, while it was provided at a symbolic price of "50 dirhams" to the rest of the community.

For his part, the Executive Medical Director of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Dr. Anwar Salam said: “The leadership of the UAE realized early on the importance of vaccines and took the initiative to provide them and urged community members to immunize themselves from infectious diseases, and the UAE has succeeded in combating and eliminating many diseases. , Inside and outside the country ».

The Director of Preventive Medicine Department at the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, Dr. Nada Al-Marzouqi, explained that the ministry aims, through the campaign’s programs, to educate the community about ways to differentiate the symptoms of seasonal influenza from symptoms of “Corona” infection, as well as awareness of the risks and complications of the disease and not tolerating taking precautions and preventive measures from it. Because limiting its spread will reduce the burden on health care centers at the state level, to keep their focus directed to confronting (Covid-19) injuries.

The head of the Health Promotion and Education Department at the Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Hind Al-Awadi, stressed the importance and safety of influenza vaccine and its effective role in reducing the disease and its negative complications, especially for the groups most at risk of contracting influenza complications such as children under five years of age, adults over the age of 65 years, and women Pregnant women, people with chronic diseases such as asthma, heart disease, kidney and liver diseases, diabetes, and health sector workers.

Boost the immune system

The director of the Department of Communicable Diseases at the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, stated that the seasonal influenza vaccine for this year strengthens the immune system against four types of viruses, namely “H1N1-H3N2- and two types of influenza B”, confirming that there is no relationship between this vaccine and the vaccine Covid-19.

She added: "It is expected that the (Covid-19) vaccine will be available globally early next year, and those who have received the available vaccine for the disease can take the seasonal flu vaccine after a safety period of at least two weeks."
