The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced the launch of an initiative to exempt electric vehicles licensed in the Emirate of Dubai from paying public parking tariffs for a period of two years, starting from the first of last July, as part of the enhancement of Dubai's green mobility strategy by increasing the rate of use of these types of vehicles.

"This initiative comes as a continuation of a previous initiative in 2018 to distinguish a number of parking spaces distributed in separate places in Dubai, and allocate them to electric vehicles," said the executive director of the Traffic and Roads Corporation at the authority, Eng. Maitha bin Uday.

She explained that the initiative supports work to increase air quality, reduce carbon emissions and enhance the concept of sustainability, in addition to motivating the public to acquire these vehicles, pointing out that 1803 electric vehicles licensed in Dubai will benefit from the initiative, and this exemption does not apply to any electric vehicles licensed from the UAE. The other is in the country or not registered in Dubai, and that the identification mechanism for the target vehicles is automatic, as the vehicle plate number is entered upon traffic verification by the parking control inspectors to ensure that the tariff is paid or not, and then it appears to the inspector the vehicle exempt from the tariff through the technical link Between parking systems and licensing systems in the authority.

She added that the exemption took effect from last July, taking into account the commitment of vehicle drivers to the controls and conditions of public parking, such as not using the parking spaces designated or reserved for certain categories without permission.

And she emphasized that, in line with the Smart Dubai strategy, there will be no need to review the authority by vehicle owners to obtain the exemption, as electric vehicles are automatically exempt from paying parking tariffs.
