Argentine coach Diego Simeone said that the score of his new striker Luis Suarez speaks for himself, stressing that he may play his first match when he begins his La Liga career against Granada on Sunday.

Suarez signed a two-year contract with Atletico on Friday after completing his free transfer from Barcelona - who scored 198 goals with him in 6 years, but the new coach Ronald Koeman pushed him to leave.

Simeone told a press conference today, "The opportunity has arisen to obtain the services of Suarez and his numbers speak for themselves."

He added, "He spent a long and busy day yesterday, but he trained with great enthusiasm and will be in the squad of course, and we will see if he starts out or will participate in the second half."

Simeone saw the retreat of many of his strikers, including those who joined in expensive deals, such as Mario Manzukic and Jackson Martinez.

But the Argentine coach is convinced that Suarez will follow the right approach to success, and he hopes to leave an impact similar to Radamel Falcao, Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa.

Simeone added, "Since we started talking with him, he was convinced that this is the best place to continue to prove that he is an important player, and I found that he has what the club needs to succeed in terms of passion and desire."

"When we had Falcao, Griezmann and Costa in the best condition, we could compete in every tournament until the end, and Suarez would give us competitive strength and attacking energy," he added.

He concluded his remarks about Suarez by saying, "I hope that he continues his historic scoring rates as he was in Barcelona. We are excited to monitor his development as quickly as possible and his goals will help us continue to compete."

For his part, the new striker said at his presentation ceremony that Simeone helped lure him to join the "Atlété".

"The conversation with the coach motivated me to come here, and his method convinced me," he said.
