A man suspected of having killed his wife with a knife on Friday evening in Champigny-sur-Marne (in Val-de-Marne) surrendered to the police on Saturday evening, nearly 24 hours after having fled , we learned from a judicial source.

Alerted by neighbors, the police and firefighters discovered around 8:30 p.m. Friday, at the couple's home, the woman's body with a wound caused by a knife to the chest.

The couple's two children have been placed, the judicial source said.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Val-de-Marne.

In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures.

Since the start of the year, at least 49 feminicides have occurred, according to a count conducted by AFP.
