In a joint statement, 3 international human rights organizations called on the Egyptian government to respect the right to demonstrate, and to stop the attacks on demonstrators against President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the "Friday of anger."
The signatory organizations are: the Istanbul-based Adalah for Human Rights (JHR), Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights (SHR), and Salam International Organization for the Protection of Human Rights (SPH), based in London.
The statement - which Al-Jazeera Net received a copy of - stated that as part of the organizations' follow-up to calls for "peaceful" protest in many places inside Egypt, cases of arbitrary detention of a number of citizens - including children - have exceeded 400 cases.
Some of them were brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Cairo, and charges were brought against them for demonstrating without a permit and damaging public facilities.
In addition, 16 citizens were summoned to the police station in Port Said governorate, and they were arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution Office, and remanded in custody.
Rubber bullets and tear gas canisters were reported at some peaceful gatherings.
The human rights organizations called on the Egyptian police to stop all attacks on peaceful demonstrations, not to use force to disperse these peaceful gatherings, and to respect the right to express opinion and peaceful assembly, as long as it is carried out in a peaceful framework, which is the right explicitly stipulated in the constitution and international covenants that have been ratified On it Egypt.
It also demanded the immediate release of all those arrested during the past days, and an end to the campaign of arbitrary arrests of citizens, especially children.
