US President Donald Trump's refusal to publicly agree to a peaceful transfer of power in the event of a loss of elections has caused concern among US politicians in both camps.

Senate Majority Leader Republican Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi both rejected Trump's statement that he "must see what happens" before accepting the election result.

"As it has been since 1792"

"The winner of the November 3 presidential election will be sworn in on January 20.

The transfer of power will be peaceful, just as it has been every four years since 1792, ”tweeted Mitch McConnell.

"You are in the United States.

This is a democracy, ”was Nancy Pelosi's response to Trump's response.

The question has been raised as more Americans than ever plan to vote by mail this year due to the corona pandemic.

Donald Trump has said several times before that postal voting is uncertain, paves the way for possible election fraud and makes the result uncertain.

"We will see what happens, I have been very critical of postal votes, postal votes are a disaster," Trump replied.

Yesterday, he reiterated his doubts about the postal votes and said that he is not sure whether the election will be "fair" because the postal votes are "a big fraud".

"Accepts no matter who wins"

Democrats have now sent out formal inquiries to high-ranking officials in the Trump administration to make sure they will respect the election result, reports the news agency AP.

- The president can not refuse to accept the election result successfully without several high-ranking people assisting him, says Elissa Slotkin democrat and former CIA analyst.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, Republican Lindsey Graham, who is close to Trump, says that he will accept the result regardless of which of the candidates wins.

Republican Liz Cheney says a peaceful takeover is fundamental to US survival.

"American leaders swear an oath.

We will uphold that oath. ”
