The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention said yesterday that seven European countries are of "grave concern" with the possibility of an increase in the number of deaths in them due to the "Covid-19" virus.

The seven countries are Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, as well as Malta.

A new risk assessment report issued by this European body in charge of monitoring the spread of epidemics stated that this group of countries has a higher percentage of severe cases, or those that require hospitalization, with an increase in the level of deaths registered now or may soon be recorded.

The concern in the seven countries is due to the high number of injuries, especially among the elderly, at a time when other European countries are recording an increase in injuries among the elderly and youth, and the latter carries a lower risk.

According to the Stockholm-based agency, the countries concerned with the high risk of low-risk injuries are France, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Belgium and Sweden, but it seems that these countries have approached the classification of "severe anxiety" in recent days, especially with the emergence of injuries. New among the elderly, according to the agency.

As for the rest of the European Union, they are considered to be in a stable situation with "weak" risks for the entire population and "medium" for those with poor health, namely Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland, Greece, Cyprus and Lithuania.

The agency indicated that "the poor health of the population is still high, as the available data on infections suggest that the level of immunity among the population is below 15% in most regions of the European Union and the United Kingdom."

Andrea Amon, director of the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said during a joint online press conference with European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, that "most of the population is still vulnerable to infection."

She added, "What we observe in many countries, not only in Spain, is that a large part of the current injuries were the result of private gatherings, whether large family dinners or meetings with friends and relatives."

Amoun rejected the call to impose a general closure of stores, restaurants and bars, saying that "this depends on the ability to ensure the application of basic measures and social distancing in these places", and indicated that until a safe and effective vaccine is available, the rapid identification, testing and quarantine of contacts are some of the most measures Efficacy to reduce transmission of infection.

For her part, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, said, “The new risk assessment clearly shows that we cannot reduce caution, and that with the number of cases in some member states higher than it was during the peak that occurred last March, it is clear "This crisis is no longer behind us, and that the moment is decisive, and everyone should act decisively and use the available tools."

She added, "This means that all member states of the European Union must be prepared to start control measures immediately and in a timely manner, and this may be the last opportunity to prevent a repeat of what was recorded last spring."

In a related context, the new Corona virus has caused the death of at least 978,448 people in the world since it was reported that the disease appeared in China at the end of last December, according to a census conducted by Agence France-Presse according to official sources.

More than 31975020 people around the world have been infected with the virus, among whom 2,1891500 have recovered as of yesterday.

These numbers only reflect a part of the actual number of injuries, as several countries do not conduct tests except for the most serious cases, while other countries give priority to conducting tests to track contacts of the injured, in addition to the limited testing capabilities of a number of poor countries.

And the United States is the country most affected in terms of the number of deaths and injuries, with 2019 recording 10 deaths out of 6934,233 injuries, according to the Johns Hopkins University census.

At least 2,670,256 people have recovered.

After the United States, Brazil comes second in terms of the number of deaths, with 138,977 deaths out of 4624,885 injuries.
