The sanctions list includes a judge of the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz city Seyed Mahmoud Sadati and a judge of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad city Mohammad Soltani.

Correctional facilities that have come under US sanctions are located in the cities of Shiraz, Urmia and Mashhad.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said that these individuals and structures are involved in human rights violations in Iran.

"These sanctions come against the backdrop of Judge Sadati and the First Division of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court reportedly being involved in the grisly case of Navid Afkari ... Prior to the execution, which was carried out in secret, Navid was reportedly tortured in Abdelabad prison." - said on the website of the US Department of State.

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling champion Navid Afkari was executed on September 12 for taking part in protests against the country's economic policies in 2018.
