The Ministry of Health and Community Protection said that it has approved on September 28 (next Monday) the date for launching its annual awareness campaign on seasonal influenza, in cooperation with health authorities, through a plan that will continue until the end of January 2021, which includes various activities and initiatives, with the aim of promoting health awareness in Community members stress the importance of vaccination to prevent the seasonal influenza virus, provide adequate vaccinations to vaccinate the target groups in health centers, and increase the coverage rate of the vaccine.

The importance of the campaign this year comes due to its coincidence with the spread of "Covid-19", which requires ensuring that the vaccine is taken before the start of the seasonal flu season, to reduce the rate of complications arising from the spread of the disease.

According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the highest priority among the target groups for vaccination is for pregnant women.

The priority includes children under five years of age, the elderly, people with chronic conditions, and health workers.

The Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Centers and Clinics Sector, Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand, confirmed that the annual campaign to raise awareness of seasonal influenza is one of the most important events on the ministry’s agenda, based on its keenness to develop the health system, strengthen surveillance mechanisms for infectious diseases, especially influenza, in addition to providing comprehensive health coverage with the vaccine.
