Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong was arrested by the police today (24th) and released on bail after three hours.

Immediately after being released, Wong said, "Whatever happens, I want to let the world know that I will continue to resist and that Hong Kongers are not giving in."

The dpa news agency reported that Joshua Wong sent a text message saying "I am now safe" after being released three hours after arrest.

Earlier, the AFP news agency reported that Joshua Wong was arrested during a press conference related to the trial in front of the Hong Kong Central Police Station around 1 p.m. local time.

On Twitter, Wong said on October 5 last year that he was arrested for participating in an illegal rally and was also charged with violating the anti-masking law.

In Hong Kong, after the Hong Kong Security Law came into effect on June 30, democrats were arrested.

Hong Kong media Myeongbo reported that another democratic activist Gutsuyao was also arrested at his home at 1 pm today on the same charges.
