Last winter, the Central School in Pajala received heavy criticism from the Swedish Schools Inspectorate, which described a school in chaos.

The authority noted daily quarrels and conflicts at the school, which has just over 200 students in grades 4-9.

The situation was so serious that some students did not dare to go to school.

After investments from the municipality in, among other things, more qualified teachers and a psychologist for student health, the situation has improved.

At the same time, the school is threatened by new savings.

Despite the fact that the municipal board gave the schools in Pajala an extra supplement of 2.8 million last week, the forecast for the year shows a minus of 2.2 million kronor.

The municipality's ombud concerned

A reduction in the number of student assistants and a closure of student coffee shops are now being investigated.

Mikael Kemi is the municipal representative for the National Union of Teachers in Pajala and is worried about the consequences that savings can lead to.

- If you remove resources, there is a risk that we end up in the same spin as before, he says.
