Serial tests.

Since Tuesday, the University of Lille has launched a major screening campaign for the coronavirus within the student population of health sectors.

This concerns, initially, young people advanced in their course who must complete internships in hospital services.

The large-scale operation involves around 800 students in 3rd year of medicine, 5th year of pharmacy and 4th year of odontology (dental surgery).

Although screening is not compulsory, it is strongly recommended.

Thus, the targeted students all received an invitation by email to which they had to respond by choosing a time slot between Tuesday and Thursday.

The results of the tests are expected by the weekend.

Other operations should follow in other campuses

The University of Lille has decided to prioritize this target initially, in particular because these students will be quickly dispatched to health establishments in order to carry out internships.

It is therefore a question of minimizing the risk of contamination of vulnerable people treated in hospital services.

The management of the university also assured that this first massive screening campaign after re-entry "will be followed by similar operations in the coming weeks on all of its campuses.

However, it was not specified whether it was planned to test the entire student body, some 70,000 people.

Also according to the University of Lille, since the beginning of September, 321 students have tested positive for Covid-19.
