"Alert" zones

Territories where the virus clearly has an incidence rate of more than 50 per 100,000 inhabitants is considered as "alert zone".

In each of the 69 departments concerned the celebrations must be done in small groups, that is to say with less than 30 people.

The prefects of these territories will also be able to take new “relevant” measures if the situation deteriorates, said Olivier Véran.

"Enhanced alert" zones

In the so-called "enhanced alert" areas, where the incidence rate is greater than 150 per 100,000 inhabitants in the whole population, and 50 in the over 65s, the gathering gauge is lowered to 1,000 people starting Saturday.

Major events, such as student parties are prohibited, sports halls are closed, and gatherings are limited to 10 people in public spaces.

In addition, an early closure of the bars will be implemented from Monday.

If it was vague on the time, Olivier Véran indicated that in all likelihood, these establishments will no longer be open after 10 p.m.

The cities which are now part of this zone are notably: Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, Lille, Saint-Etienne, Montpellier, Paris and its inner suburbs, Toulouse, Rennes, Rouen and Grenoble.

"Maximum alert" zones

In so-called "maximum alert" areas, where the health situation is the most tense with an incidence rate of 200 per 100,000 for the entire population, 100 for those over 65, and where Covid patients in intensive care represent more than 30%, the measures are even stricter.

As of Saturday, bars and restaurants will be completely closed, as will all establishments open to the public which do not have a strict health protocol.

This excludes cinemas, theaters etc. from the measure.

Are in this zone of maximum alert Marseille and Guadeloupe.
