The United States has exceeded the threshold of 200,000 deaths from the emerging coronavirus, while a record wave of new infections prompted the authorities in Europe to re-impose strict health restrictions, after more than five million people were infected with the emerging coronavirus on the continent since the outbreak of the epidemic in China.

This comes, while aggregated data of Coronavirus cases showed that the total number of infections worldwide had exceeded 31.6 million as of yesterday morning.

The United States recorded this toll, which exceeded the threshold of 200,000 virus deaths just 41 days before the presidential elections, while the World Health Organization warned that new infections in all parts of the world have reached record levels.

US President Donald Trump, who faces a tough battle for re-election and lags behind Democratic rival Joe Biden in opinion polls, said that crossing the threshold of 200,000 deaths is a "shame", blaming China.

In a videotaped message, Trump delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly, which opened on Tuesday, attacking Beijing for not doing anything to stop the spread of what he called "the Chinese virus."

Trump accused Beijing of allowing the Corona virus to leave China and infecting the whole world, explaining that "with the start of the virus spreading, China banned domestic flights while allowing aircraft to leave the country."

He said that "China must be held accountable for its actions," referring to the "Covid-19" crisis.

The US President indicated that the United States would have recorded 2.5 million deaths due to the Corona virus, with the country crossing the 200,000 death mark.

"I think it is a shame," Trump told reporters at the White House Tuesday, when asked about the number of deaths. "If we did not do the right thing, we would have 2.5 million deaths."

"China should have stopped that at its borders," he added.

The figure comes nearly seven months after the United States announced its first confirmed death from the Coronavirus in late February.

The United States recorded the largest number of deaths in the world due to Corona, but the difference in methodologies across countries makes the comparisons inaccurate.

According to Agence France-Presse statistics, more than 31 million people have been infected around the world, and nearly 962,000 have died from “Covid-19” since the virus appeared in Wuhan, in eastern China, in late 2019.

The World Health Organization stated, Monday, that about two million cases were recorded worldwide in the one week until September 20.

She explained that the 6% increase is "the largest number of infections ever recorded in one week since the start of the outbreak."

In Europe, this increase forced British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to announce new steps in an attempt to curb the high number of deaths from the epidemic.

"To help contain the virus, office workers who can work from home should do so," the government said, despite fears of a devastating impact on the economy.

On Thursday, new rules are to come into effect affecting bars and other hospitality places, and plans to allow fans to return to sporting events have been abandoned.

Johnson warned that the new restrictions could last for six months, calling for a collective effort to "go through the winter together."

His medical advisers said the UK could see 50,000 cases of coronavirus per day by mid-October if no action is taken.

Johnson, who, like Trump, has been widely criticized for his handling of the epidemic, pointed out that "historically, our collective fate and our collective health have never depended on our individual behavior."

After months of easing the complete lockdown, the Spanish Minister of Health called on residents the day before yesterday, to Madrid to limit their movements and physical contacts, describing this measure as "essential".

About 850,000 people in part of the Madrid region are currently subject to isolation procedures again.

Across Europe, hundreds of major events have been curtailed or canceled.

For the first time since 1944, the Nobel Prize Ceremony will not be held in Stockholm this year as usual, but rather a virtual ceremony that will be broadcast live on television.

The party held annually in Norway to award the Nobel Peace Prize in December will also be reduced.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz said that fighting the epidemic remains a "very big challenge", and his country has extended the mandatory measures to wear masks and re-imposed some restrictions imposed earlier this year.

In Australia, the authorities relaxed some of the restrictions that caused domestic travel bans between states.

Like neighboring New Zealand, severe restrictions have pushed the rate of community transmission near zero in much of Australia.

For its part, the German government called for the use of the new Corona virus infection warning application on smartphones intensively, in light of the onset of autumn and winter.

Yesterday, Health Minister Jens Young said in Berlin during his evaluation of the application 100 days after its launch: "Please use this tool during the pandemic," explaining that the use includes informing the individual's communication department if it turns out positive for the virus.

The minister stated that this occurs so far in only about half of the cases, indicating that about 5,000 individuals have warned their contacts in this way.

More than five million people have been infected with the emerging coronavirus in Europe since the outbreak of the epidemic in China in December, according to official sources.

In total, 5000,421 injuries were recorded in Europe, including 227,130 deaths, more than half of them in Russia (1122,241 injuries and 19799 deaths), Spain (682267 injuries and 30,904 deaths), France (502,541 injuries and 31,416 deaths) and Britain (403551 injuries and 41,825 deaths), while more than 380,000 infections in the past seven days, the highest weekly toll in Europe since the start of the epidemic.

And aggregate data of Coronavirus cases showed that the total number of infections worldwide had exceeded 31.6 million as of yesterday morning.

The latest data available on the Johns Hopkins University website showed that the total number of injuries reached 31 million, 600 thousand and 754 cases.

It also showed that the number of deaths reached 970,857 cases.

Trump: If we had not acted properly, we would have had 2.5 million Corona deaths.
