The Ministry of the Interior said that fog is a major cause of traffic accidents, which calls for the utmost caution in such circumstances, explaining that the General Department for Traffic Coordination at the Ministry has prepared a list of instructions and procedures that drivers must follow when visibility is low or during fog formation, focusing on The actions they must do and the things they need to avoid.

The ministry tightened the penalty for not adhering to the safe driving instructions during the descent of fog, as the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law stipulated two violations, namely “walking in foggy times without using lights” and “walking in fog times in violation of the instructions of the concerned authority”, and their penalties are 500 dirhams and four points. The ministry has identified 10 mistakes that drivers make while driving in foggy times, which lead to reduced visibility, and may cause dangerous traffic accidents, which are "increasing the speed", "turning on the four warning signals", "using the high beam", "not stopping outside the road." He called on road users to follow safe driving instructions when visibility is low or not, and to be careful and abide by traffic and traffic rules, especially on roads that are frequently fogged.

He explained that the driver must listen to the weather forecast, and know the weather, before he begins driving on the road.

He urged him to postpone the flight (if necessary) until the weather conditions improved.

Ministry statistics revealed that, last year, traffic authorities at the state level violated 1,273 drivers for not adhering to safe driving instructions during fog, as they recorded 1,098 violations for driving in foggy times in violation of the instructions of the concerned authority, and 175 violations for driving in fog times without using lights.

Statistics indicated that 3337 drivers violated instructions in 2018 due to driving in foggy times, in violation of instructions.
