The American start-up Civvl recently posted online classified ads aimed at recruiting people across the country to evict occupants of housing who can no longer pay their rent.

Interested self-employed workers will work at the mission, as a team with others.

The company describes the activity as "the fastest growing paid employment due to Covid-19", reports

Business Insider.

The health and economic crisis linked to the coronavirus makes it difficult for millions of Americans to pay rents and monthly loan payments.

Several internet users accused Civvl of taking advantage of their situation to earn money.

The legality of the activity is also called into question since the American authorities have prohibited evictions for non-payment during the coronavirus pandemic.

A tool for "frustrated owners"

Legal responsibility for actions undertaken with people recruited via the Civvl app rests with the owners who decide to kick their tenants out, specifying the conditions of use of the app.

On the ads posted on the Craigslist site, the company promises first assignments a week after registration and an hourly wage of up to $ 125.

Described as "Uber, but to evict people" by

, the start-up was keen to react: "Civvl is only a tool available to frustrated owners who are looking for one-off help to clean and empty their unoccupied homes. company officials said in an email.

Nothing more.

Nothing less ".

A study published on the Apartment List platform shows that, at the beginning of September, 29% of Americans had not been able to pay their rent or their credit repayment in full.

The previous month the figure was 8%.
