On Tuesday, September 22, the Rospotrebnadzor reported that the Ministry of Health had begun state registration of the EpiVacCorona coronavirus vaccine, developed by the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector", and they expect to complete the process by October 15.

It is noted that after registration, clinical trials of the vaccine will begin "with the inclusion of volunteers of the age group 60+ and with chronic diseases."

5 thousand volunteers of various age groups will take part in the post-registration trials of the drug.

Also, the Ministry of Health issued a permit to the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations to conduct clinical trials of its own vaccine against COVID-19.

Tests will begin shortly in Kirov, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.

More than 3 thousand volunteers will take part in them, which will meet the requirements of the World Health Organization and international regulators.

“We expect to complete clinical trials in November of this year,” said Aidar Ishmukhametov, Director General of the Center, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The world's first coronavirus vaccine, dubbed Sputnik V, was registered on 11 August.

Currently, it has already been released into civilian circulation.

At the same time, post-registration studies are being conducted.

The start of mass vaccination of the population is expected by the winter, when the drug manufacturers will be able to launch its production in large volumes.

As Hans Kluge, Director of the European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organization, during a meeting with the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Murashko, noted, “WHO highly appreciates Russia's efforts to create the Sputnik V vaccine.

According to him, the drug is safe and effective.

“The development of a vaccine is Russia's main response to the coronavirus outbreak, which is why solidarity is so important.

My colleagues at WHO and I will discuss in Geneva what the next steps will be in this area ... Russia has shown global solidarity and helped me as Regional Director to support the countries of Central Asia, ”Kluge added.

Later, following a meeting with the leadership of Rospotrebnadzor, the WHO representative expressed confidence that the post-registration studies of the vaccine will be completed successfully.
