The Houthi group called on the Saudi-Emirati coalition to absorb what it called the "Ma'rib Initiative" and its nine points, while the Yemeni government called on the Southern Transitional Council to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

This call came from the head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, in reference to an offer made by the Houthis to stop their military incursion into the oil governorate of Ma'rib, eastern Yemen.

In his speech on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the Houthi control of the capital, Sanaa, Al-Mashat considered that the nine points are just demands and fair entitlements for the Yemeni people, without revealing their details.

For his part, the international envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths called on everyone to work together to bring peace to Yemen.

On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, Griffiths saluted Yemeni peace advocates everywhere and urged the parties to take a step in the direction of achieving comprehensive peace in this country.

Griffiths said, "I say to Yemenis, especially civil society activists, women and youth groups, I salute you all for your courage and persistence, and I hope you continue to achieve a future for your country dominated by equal citizenship, rule of law and accountable governance, a future of sustainable peace."

"I say to the warring parties on this day, I hope that you think and find the necessary courage and take the first step towards giving the Yemenis the peace they need and deserve, so that we can work together urgently to end this conflict completely."

In a related context, the Yemeni government today called on the Southern Transitional Council, supported by the UAE, to respect its obligations towards the mechanism to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

According to the Yemeni News Agency "Saba", Al-Hadrami said that the government is keen to fully implement the Riyadh Agreement, signed with the Transitional Council on the fifth of last November, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

At the end of last July, the Saudi-Emirati coalition announced a mechanism to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, which includes the transitional council’s abandonment of the Autonomous Administration, the formation of a government of equal competencies between the north and the south, the departure of the military forces from Aden, and the separation of the two parties ’forces in (Abyan).

Al-Hadhrami stressed the need for the Transitional Council to respect its obligations, and to remove its forces and military units from Aden, in accordance with the mechanism to accelerate the implementation of the agreement.
