• Venezuela: A UN report links Maduro and two generals to crimes against humanity

The United States has once again lashed out at the alliance between the Bolivarian and Iranian revolutions.

Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State, released today the new government decree that, on the one hand, sanctions Nicolás Maduro and, on the other, the Ministry of Defense of Iran, the Organization of Defense Industries and its director.

He accuses all of them of

breaking the arms embargo

decreed by the United Nations two years ago.

"For almost two years, corrupt officials in Tehran have worked with the illegitimate regime in Venezuela to circumvent the arms embargo," said Pompeo, who has just carried out a mini-tour through Latin America with Venezuela as the main theme.

Washington's decision was made despite not getting the support of the UN Security Council over the weekend.

The new US sanctions seek to disrupt the importation and proliferation of Iranian conventional weapons, which "will help protect US forces, our allies and the civilian population," added

Defense Secretary Mark Esper

.

"We are prepared to respond to the Iranian aggression," insisted Esper, calling Tehran's actions "evil".

The revolutions of Iran and Venezuela have strengthened their ties

in recent months, during which the Ayatollah regime has supplied fuel to the oil country, which is suffering an acute gasoline crisis.

Bolivarian payments are made with smuggled gold that is extracted from the Arco Minero.

Nicolás Maduro also said publicly that he is willing to buy Iranian weapons.

The sanctions are "a direct consequence of Maduro's ties with countries that sponsor terrorism and that seek to import into our hemisphere problems from other regions that affect stability," explained

Carlos Vecchio

, ambassador of the Presidency in charge in Washington, who clarified that The new punishment against Maduro is due to his participation or attempt to do so in the "direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer to or from Iran, or for the use of Iran and the benefit of Iran, of weapons or related material."

The measures adopted imply for those sanctioned the prohibition of entry to the United States, the freezing of assets in that country and the prohibition of companies and entities from providing goods and services.

Maduro has not only been sanctioned since 2017 by the Treasury Department, but a reward of 15 million dollars hangs over his head for anyone who helps his arrest or provides evidence for his prosecution.

The UN Mission report, which directly points to Maduro for crimes against humanity, also encourages the International Criminal Court, judges and prosecutors to act against the "son of Chávez."

"As for the consequences of the announced sanction, there is nothing new because it is a repetition of previous measures. What is new is the accusation against Maduro, accusing him of violating the arms embargo approved in the UN against Iran," highlights the internationalist Mariano de Alba .
