DRC prepares less ambitious 2021 budget after record 2020 budget

The government adopted on Friday the foreshadowing of the preliminary draft of the 2021 finance law. The government wants to learn lessons from the execution of the historically high budget of 11 billion dollars for 2020.

Among those awaiting the 2021 budget, there is in particular the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As for the current year, the Bretton-Woods institution suggests that the Congolese government opt
for a realistic budget
.
The international organization goes further and makes this requirement one of the conditions for the DRC to access credit facilities.
During the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Félix Tshisekedi questioned the government on this fact.

The teams of the national executive and those of the IMF worked in a joint manner and arbitrations were made.
It was not easy, but we are in tune,
”said a member of the government.

A budget focused on the productive sector
Another minister confirmed that this budget will be less ambitious than that of 2020, even if it is still being drawn up.
Government experts will be isolated in the coming days to work towards a balanced and realistic budget on spending and revenue.
But we already know that among the guidelines that have been given, following the coronavirus crisis in particular, the emphasis will be on the productive sector.
There are also the social, investments and security which will be priorities.
