The accident occurred north of Järna at 20.15 on Sunday evening.

Bodil Appelquist says that she suddenly heard it pounding.

- I heard how it slammed and then something was dragged under the train.

The train slowed down and eventually stopped completely.

Half a kilometer along the rails

Bodil and the other passengers had to climb down the rails via a ladder.

Then they had to walk half a kilometer along the rails to Järna station.

- It was pitch black.

Some had small children with them and had to carry them on their shoulders, says Bodil.

Guards on board could help

According to information to SL, 20-30 people were on board the train when the accident occurred.

Pretty soon, the Traffic Management made a decision to evacuate the train, says Henrik Palmér, press spokesperson at SL.

- The assessment was based on the fact that there were relatively few passengers and 500 meters to Järna station and that they had some staff on the train, including security guards who could support the evacuation.

The train was so damaged that it could not continue.

- Sometimes evacuations are more dramatic, but an assessment has been made of the overall picture.

The alternative for passengers is to have to wait for a train until you can tow it away or similar.

I think it has also been judged from the passenger perspective, that it was the most reasonable thing to evacuate the train.

According to SL, the traffic stop has not affected other traffic.
