In Rennes, after the proliferation of integration parties and evenings, one of which has turned the medical school into a hotbed of contamination, bars are now required to close at 11 p.m.

A measure that could be counterproductive, the students now finding themselves in each other's homes, several in cramped spaces, without any control.

REPORTAGE

Nice, Toulouse, but also Rennes.

Almost everywhere, restrictive measures are taken locally to control the spread of Covid-19.

In Rennes, a student city, bars now close at 11 p.m. since Wednesday.

A measure which could well be useless, the students prolonging their evenings at one or the other.

Crammed into apartments

"It is 11 pm, we no longer have the right!", Warns the security guard of the bar to get everyone out.

Immediately said, immediately done, in a few minutes, the very lively rue Saint-Michel, nicknamed "Rue de la Soif" is black with people.

Out of the bar, Simon and his friends finish their drink, but this won't be the last.

Because when the doors of the bars close, those of the private apartments, they open to continue the party until much later.

"We go to other people's apartments," explains Simon.

Same program for Nérée and Marinette: "We are having an after-party, about fifteen we sit in a 15m² apartment".

For the two young girls, the closing of the bars goes against all logic.

“In the bars, we will respect the measures, we have hydroalcoholic gel, the security guard is watching. There we will be locked in an apartment.” “In fact it removes the problem from one place to another, it moves it”.

"We will always find a way to meet again"

What is also moving are integration evenings, such as the one organized in mid-September and during which around forty medical students were infected.

An event which is far from having vaccinated them since obviously these evenings continue.

"Either in medicine or in pharmacy, they still do integration evenings, but in apartments", explains a student.

"There was one last week, and Tuesday too."

According to this student, the solution to all this is found.

"We should confine everyone to really there is no contact," she said.

"Whether we close the bars at 11pm, 1am or 3am, we will always find a way to meet again”.

The proof: midnight in Rennes.

The bars have been closed for an hour and groups continue to form in the streets or parks.
