The decision will be effective from Monday at 12 noon in Paris and near Paris airports.

Mandatory so far, the wearing of masks for bikers will no longer be after a decision by the Paris police headquarters, published this Sunday.

"Drivers of two or three motorized wheels, in Paris and in the rights-of-way of the aerodromes of Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Le Bourget and Paris-Orly, are exempt from the obligation to wear a mask" but on condition that they ci "wear a visor helmet, ensuring the same guarantees as wearing a mask in terms of the risk of transmission of Covid-19 and that they circulate with the visor down," the statement said.

A first modification in August

This decision comes after an order from the Paris administrative court, taken on September 19 by the summary judge.

The court had been seized by the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) which demanded a modification of the prefectural decree.

In a joint press release published on September 1, several biker associations protested against the obligation to wear a motorcycle mask.

"If the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic requires the adoption of health measures, they must still be adapted and proportional to the objective pursued.

In this case, the imposition of the wearing of a mask on the motorcyclist is clearly incompatible with that of a motorcycle helmet, a helmet fitted with a protective visor which is covered with mist as soon as it is in the closed position ” , they wrote.

This relaxation comes after a first change acted on August 28 and which allows Parisian cyclists and joggers to circulate without a mask during their physical activity.
