"The candidacy proposed by President Trump will be voted on by the full US Senate," TASS quotes the leader of the Republican majority in the upper house of the American legislature, Mitch McConnell.

He noted that since 1880, there has been no precedent for a majority in the Senate representing one of the parties in an election year to approve a Supreme Court judge proposed by the president of a rival party.

Formerly the oldest member of the US Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, died on September 18 at the age of 87.
