“Our position on the sanctions instruments used by the European Union is well known.

It is illegitimate from the point of view of international law, constitutes an unacceptable interference in internal affairs, "- said in the statement of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

She noted that against the background of the threat of sanctions in Brussels, they are working out mechanisms to bring the previously allocated € 53 million to Belarus "to the Belarusian NGOs and the media chosen by the EU members, bypassing the country's official authorities."

“In general, we see that disrespect for objective internal political realities, unrestrained support of the opposition forces, up to the recognition of the“ impostors ”by individual EU member states, which in Brussels are not able to“ restrain ”, the stake on the replacement of the current government through sanctions, pressure and propaganda, everything are more consolidated in the foreign policy arsenal of the European Union, ”the Foreign Ministry said.

Belarus is not the only example in this regard, the ministry added.

"We call on the European Union to reconsider this course, which leads to the erosion of the international legal foundation of the world order, and in the case of Belarus, prevents normalization in the country," the ministry concluded.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry said that a possible meeting and "flirting" of the EU Foreign Ministers with ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya are part of a scenario of interference in the internal affairs of the republic.
