September 18, 2020 Donald Trump will ban downloading the Chinese apps WeChat and TikTok starting September 20.

Reuters reports this on its website citing some sources.

The Commerce Department plans to issue an order banning those in the United States from downloading the two apps from Sunday but, Reuters reports, the ban on TikTok could be skipped given ongoing negotiations for a deal with Oracle.



" of the President, we have taken significant action to combat China's malicious collection of US citizens' personal data, while promoting our national values, rules-based democratic norms, and strict enforcement of US laws and regulations, " Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said.



WeChat, which is one of the most popular social messaging apps in the world, is owned by the Chinese company Tencent.
