Egyptian activists circulated video clips showing the flooding of Al-Duweika area in Mansheyet Nasser, east of Cairo, with sewage water following the explosion of a main pipe, days after the people of the area demonstrated to protest against the Reconciliation Law and the demolition of violating real estate.

The Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater said that the accumulation of large quantities of water on the highway in Manshiyat Nasser area resulted from a blockage of the main sewage line, "1800 mm in diameter", as a result of dumping solid and heavy wastes coming from Al Zaraeeb area.

The company stated that coordination had been made with the Cairo Drinking Water Company to cut off water from the Mansheyat Nasser area to reduce pressure on the sewage networks, and it also confirmed the start of its operations to withdraw water.
