Russian fighters intercepted Norwegian, American, and Swedish reconnaissance aircraft

Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, September 8 (Reporter Wu Gang) The National Defense Management Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a communique on the 8th that Russian fighter planes intercepted reconnaissance planes from Norway, the United States, and Sweden that were trying to reach the Russian border.

The communiqué stated that the Russian Northern Fleet’s air defense force detected a Norwegian Falcon-20 reconnaissance plane attempting to reach the Russian border through radar over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea, and then dispatched a MiG-29 fighter to intercept it.

The Russian warplanes accompanied the Norwegian reconnaissance aircraft without allowing it to enter Russian airspace.

After the Norwegian reconnaissance plane turned away from the Russian border, the Russian fighter plane returned to the base safely.

The communiqué stated that Russian fighter planes also intercepted American RC-135 reconnaissance planes and Swedish "Gulfstream" reconnaissance planes attempting to reach the Russian border over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, but did not allow them to enter Russian airspace.

NATO aircraft headed by the United States often arrive near the Russian border for reconnaissance activities, and Russia has always firmly opposed this.
