• The warning.Órdago de Podemos to Pedro Sánchez: "The PSOE knows that with us it will not count on Budgets with Cs"
  • The answer. The PSOE responds to Podemos: "Or Budgets with all or Montoro's"
  • The opposition.Pablo Casado will only negotiate the Budgets if Pablo Iglesias leaves the Government

About to start the weekend, with the political climate somewhat more tempered after the agreement with the communities for the start of the school year and an eye on the evolution of coronavirus infections, United We can once again spoil the party in Moncloa and in Ferraz with a public veto for the Government to negotiate the General State Budgets with Citizens, as Pedro Sánchez wants, which represents the second major clash of the coalition partners only this week. An image of division when the entire interest of the Government should be in the fight against the pandemic.

As if Pablo Iglesias only found his place in the Executive attacking the Socialists and as if only in this way he redeemed himself from the wear and tear that his training accuses after the accusation of alleged illegal financing. On his return from vacation, the Prime Minister has run into two military actions by his second vice president, which just won't let him sleep.

The first, this Tuesday, in the form of criticism of his Minister of Education, Isabel Celaá, whom the PSOE partner accused of "lack of leadership" in the preparations for going back to school.

And the second, this Friday, also by surprise, at a press conference by the spokesmen of Podemos, Isabel Serra and Rafael Mayoral, in which they warned that Citizens should not have "neither voice nor vote" in next year's accounts , and they assured, as a threat: "The PSOE knows that with us it is not going to count on Budgets with Citizens."

Sánchez's agenda

This position caught the socialists totally off guard, who not only plan to agree on the accounts with Inés Arrimadas, with whom since the negotiations for the third extension of the state of alarm decreed by the coronavirus crisis, Moncloa maintains a very good dialogue, but also, On this basis they intend to pressure the PP and politically erode it with its refusal to agree to the Covid-19 Budgets.

With this purpose, Moncloa has designed a start to the political course that will begin on Monday, August 31 with a conference by the President of the Government at the Casa de América in Madrid, with businessmen and leaders of civil society, in which he will defend the idea of unity. political and civil.

After this act, he will meet on Wednesday with Pablo Casado to ask exactly that, preferentially from him, and from the rest of the political leaders who will parade through his office. As a final touch to this commitment to unity and the slogan launched by the Government of "Spain can", Sánchez will preside over the conference of regional presidents on Friday, September 4.

This Friday, Pablo Iglesias dislodged all that scaffolding with his warnings and showed that Sánchez is seeking an agreement that he has not even reached with United Podemos yet. Despite the constant disagreements with its partners, the socialist core of the Government assumed that Podemos would agree to a global pact that includes Cs.

"Cosillas" between Podemos and socialistas

The purple ones have always defended maintaining the block of the motion of censure (with ERC), but without thus vetoing Cs. Executive sources recalled that even Iglesias has verbalized in a Council of Ministers that it was logical that all parliamentary groups should be spoken to.

Although the perennial friction with Podemos has led the Socialists to perceive them as not very serious -something similar happened to them with ERC- and they attributed it to their "little things" -of so little importance as to filter that the reproaches to Celaá had been produced in their own Council of Ministers-, this Friday a response to this threat was necessary.

PSOE sources reaffirmed that they are betting on "country" Budgets, as Sánchez explained this week, and that they will speak with all political forces to approve them. They also defended that there is no alternative: "Either Budgets with everyone or those of Cristóbal Montoro continue."

But the ordeal of Podemos was not the result of a heat or a slip. The staging was studied and the slogans were written down in Serra's notebook, who as a spokesman verbalized the threat in a press conference called expressly to pressure his partner.

"Caring" for Investiture Partners

There was no room for doubt. He declared Cs as an "incompatible" project and attacked the oranges, assuring that they make "the same policies as the PP" and that they act "exactly" as Isabel Díaz Ayuso is doing in the Community of Madrid.

For this reason, he pointed out that the "guarantee" that the Budgets preserve the social character of the coalition government is to reject outright Cs and the PP and to look exclusively at the parties that allowed the inauguration. That is, mainly to ERC and EH Bildu, or to BNG. Thus, they urged Sánchez to "take care of" that majority and, contrary to the president's idea, they conspired to "work" to attract them again.

In parallel, EH Bildu also issued the same warning. Arnaldo Otegi said that if the PSOE seeks "other allies", alluding to Cs, "they will not be able to count on us." The phrase is, almost literally, that of Podemos.
