Mevludin Halilovic, who drives city buses in Växjö and who is the union's municipal safety representative, sees that the congestion on the buses has increased after the start of school. Now 23 buses run in the morning instead of 40 buses, as will be the case with the regular timetable.

Correct decision

The summer timetable has been extended to 31 August and that decision was taken by Region Kronoberg already in the spring, when travelers had decreased by about 50 percent.

- When we made the decision, it was very low travel and then we extended the summer schedule by two weeks. At that time, it was a correct decision. Now it happens that there are many on certain trips and then we try to handle it with reinforcement traffic instead, says Thomas Nilsson, traffic director at Region Kronoberg.

Worst weeks in a long time

The union's municipal drivers are worried that the coming week will be the worst in a long time. What can you do to avoid it?

- It is possible that it will be the worst in a long time, but it depends on the situation we have. We choose to drive on, because we have people who, for example, have to get to work by public transport. At the same time, we urge everyone to choose a different mode of transport if it is possible to reduce congestion on board, says Thomas Nilsson.

The Director of Transport says that they follow the Swedish Public Health Agency's recommendations and that there are no recommendations on how many people can ride a bus.

The rules are the same as before the pandemic. Buses should only be signposted as full if it is technically crowded and they are not allowed to transport more according to the inspection protocol.
