The couple had passed off their two daughters as athletes and paid $ 500,000 in bribes to get them admitted to USC University in Los Angeles. Loughlin and Giannulli initially faced up to 40 years in prison for "money laundering" and "criminal conspiracy".

33 parents involved

After resisting, the actress famous for having played Aunt Becky in The Party at the House and her husband had finally agreed to plead guilty to lessened charges in order to obtain a more lenient sentence without trial. Felicity Huffman had pleaded guilty in March and spent two weeks behind bars.

In total, 33 parents had participated in this national fraud organized by William Rick Singer, a former basketball coach converted into a consultant specializing in university admissions. The latter, who pleaded guilty to racketeering and money laundering and collaborated with the authorities, will face his sentence shortly.
