• Courts: The judge imputes Podemos and several leaders for alleged financial irregularities

The Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, has defended the judge's decision to open an investigation into Podemos for alleged financial irregularities, while claiming that one must be "tremendously respectful." An attitude that, he has recognized in an interview in the Ser, are not being followed "individually" by some leaders of Pablo Iglesias' party, although "he understands that it is" the organization as such is doing.

Campo has said that he "does not share" the manifestations of these leaders and spokesmen of Podemos who attack the judge in the case, Juan José Escalonilla , but at the same time he has avoided reprimanding them in a forceful way so as not to open a crisis between partners. Thus, he has limited himself to assuming that these members of Podemos have "freedom of expression" and that they do not have to agree in the same position of respect that he assumes.

The Minister of Justice has on several occasions insisted that the judges must be allowed to work from their "independence". It is the same message that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, also launched when he was asked last week about the imputation of Podemos and several members of his leadership and asked for "maximum respect" three times.

Campo has rejected that the judge's investigation is an operation to disarm Podemos the Government, as the purple leaders maintain . "Obviously I do not share it," he stressed. In fact, it has replied that what has happened is that there are some facts that have been brought to the attention of the judge and that, therefore, "the judiciary has the obligation to investigate."

In this sense, Campo has insisted that, having received the complaint from the former legal head of Podemos, José Manuel Calvente, the judge has understood that it "has the character of a crime" and, therefore, that the complaint "is not outright rejectable" and that it proceeds to investigate. From there, he frames the open proceedings and has asked to wait to see how they progress.

Campo has acknowledged that the case against his government partner "clearly worries" but that we have to wait and see how it evolves. "You have to let the Justice act and see how the investigation progresses, which is very primary in the sense that it is very recent in time. Of course it worries, but you also have to trust the Justice and the steps that are taking they will be modulating and adopting the necessary actions by whoever corresponds ", he said.
