A fire ravaged the night of Thursday to Friday the main building of an educational farm in Saint-Cyr-de-Valorges (Loire), we learned from the firefighters and the municipality. The intervention of about fifty firefighters shortly after 1 a.m. did not make it possible to put out in time the fire of the 4,500 square meter building which collapsed. About a hundred Montbéliard cows were sheltered there and did not survive.

"Our on-site intervention should last until Sunday to finish extinguishing the fire in the bales of hay under a heap of sheets, with the intervention of public works machinery, then the evacuation to the rendering of the carcasses animals, ”said a representative of the firefighters.

A destroyed cheese production workshop

"The farm, whose building was inaugurated three years ago, had a cheese production workshop, Le Bageon de Valorges, and a direct sales shop, which were also destroyed," said Gilbert Grataloup, the mayor of this town of 300 inhabitants, in the south of the district of Roanne.

This family business is one of ten educational farms listed by the Loire departmental council.
