Palestine: Agreement on the normalization of Arab-Israeli relations is "a violation of the Palestinian people"

Xinhua News Agency, Ramallah, August 13 (Reporter Xihao Sihao) The Palestinian Presidential Palace issued a statement on the evening of the 13th, stating that the Palestinian leadership refused to accept the US-mediated agreement on the full normalization of relations between the UAE and Israel. The agreement is " Violation of the Palestinian people".

Palestinian President Abbas convened an emergency meeting of leaders of various political factions in the West Bank city of Ramallah that night to discuss the normalization of relations between the UAE and Israel.

After the meeting, the Palestinian Presidential Palace issued a statement stating that the Palestinian leadership believed that the agreement was "a blow to the Arab Peace Initiative and the Arab and Islamic summit decisions." The agreement actually recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and the Palestinian leadership asked the UAE to immediately withdraw from the agreement.

The statement said that the Palestinian leadership opposed Israel’s freezing of the annexation plan in connection with the normalization of relations between that country and Arab countries, and urged other Arab countries to “not succumb to US pressure” and not to normalize relations with Israel at the expense of Palestinian rights.

The statement said that the Palestinian leadership does not allow anyone to interfere in Palestinian affairs and does not allow anyone to determine their legal rights on behalf of the Palestinian people.

According to reports, UAE Crown Prince Mohammed of Abu Dhabi, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and U.S. President Trump reached an agreement on the 13th after a three-way phone call, agreeing to the full normalization of relations between the UAE and Israel. Israel will suspend its "implementation of sovereignty" over the regions mentioned in the US "New Middle East Peace Plan" and concentrate on expanding its relations with other Arab and Islamic countries.

In January this year, the United States announced the so-called "New Middle East Peace Plan," which favored Israel on major issues such as the ownership of Jerusalem and the legality of Jewish settlements, while ignoring Palestinian concerns. The Israeli side welcomed the plan, but the Palestinian side explicitly rejected it. After the announcement of the "New Middle East Peace Plan", tensions in Palestine-Israel have escalated.

In April this year, the Israeli Likud Group and the Blue and White Party signed a coalition government agreement. According to the agreement, Israel will advance the “implementation of sovereignty” over the Jordan Valley and Jewish settlements in the West Bank under the “New Middle East Peace Plan” starting from July 1, covering approximately 30% of the land area in the West Bank. This plan was generally opposed by the United Nations, the European Union, and Arab countries.
