The Jordanian Minister of Interior, Salama Hammad, decided yesterday to close the Jaber border post with Syria from Thursday morning, for a period of a week.

The decision was taken based on the recommendation of the Border and Airports Affairs Regulatory and Follow-up Committee, during the meeting held yesterday.

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the government committee decided to assign Minister of Health Saad Jaber to take the necessary sanitary and preventive measures to quarantine workers at the center, and to make the necessary arrangements in this regard, after the increase in the number of workers working at the center with the new Corona virus.

The Prime Minister, Omar Al-Razzaz, stressed the necessity that during the closing of the border center, all procedures at Jaber, Al-Karamah and Al-Omari border posts (with Iraq and Saudi Arabia) be reviewed, after “these three crossings have become a source of transmission of the epidemic to our internal arena.”

Al-Razzaz said that since the day before yesterday and yesterday, 25 cases of Coronavirus were recorded, "the majority of which were from the Jaber border center."

The crossings became a source of transmission for the epidemic.
