Former Brazilian football star Ronaldinho, detained in Paraguay for five months for using false official documents, will be set on August 24 on a possible release, AFP learned Monday from judicial sources.

According to these sources, Judge Gustavo Amarilla, in charge of the case, will have to rule during a hearing set for that date on the prosecution's requisitions.

The public prosecutor demanded payment by Ronaldinho of a fine of $ 90,000 for "repairing damage to society". The former player of FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain would also be allowed to return to Brazil, against the obligation to appear every three months for a year before a judge.

Regarding the brother of the former footballer, Roberto, also detained in Paraguay in this case, the prosecution, which considers that he was aware of the fraud, requested a two-year suspended sentence, the payment of a fine of $ 110,000 and an obligation to appear every three months before a Brazilian judge for two years.

Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, said Ronaldinho, and his brother Roberto were arrested on March 6 for using forged Paraguayan passports.

After being detained in a police station in Asuncion, where the Ballon d'Or 2005 celebrated its 40th anniversary on March 21, the two men have been under house arrest for four months in a luxury hotel in the capital, against the filing of '' $ 1.6 million bond.

Coming in particular to promote a book, the two Brazilians are accused of having entered Paraguay in possession of false passports.

Some 18 people have already been arrested in connection with the case, most of them immigration officials or police.
