1. Be the best engine in the world

  In 2005, my country's first "Landking" engine with completely independent intellectual property rights was born in Weichai. In order to promote mass production of "Landking" as soon as possible, the Weichai Youth Technology Innovation Team took the lead in the industry to carry out the "Three Highs" test. The "three highs" test refers to various performance tests of the engine in the extreme environment of high temperature, high cold and plateau area, which is crucial to whether the engine can seize the market in the first time.

  At the hottest time of the year, the Flame Mountain in Turpan, Xinjiang, the air temperature is as high as 50 degrees Celsius, and the surface temperature is as high as 82 degrees Celsius. The heat wave hits, making people breathless. In order to obtain engine test data under extreme high temperature environments, the "three highs" test team stayed here for more than a month.

  At the coldest time of the year, at four or five o'clock in the morning in Heihe, Heilongjiang, water was sprinkled into ice. The "three highs" test team insisted on doing tests during this time period because this is the best time to test the engine's low temperature performance. After a few hours, everyone's fingers were red and stiff with cold, and the pain was unbearable, but they were excited for the data.

  If the high temperature and the high cold test the will of people, then not only the will of the team members must be tested on the plateau, but also the limit of life.

  In order to obtain more accurate data, they took the initiative to increase the engine plateau test from 4100 meters above sea level to 5200 meters. In order to obtain the first-hand data of the entire vehicle operation, they often follow the vehicle overnight to collect vehicle road spectrum data, analyze and summarize the common operating conditions of the engine, and optimize the engine system according to the data of different operating conditions; sometimes to improve the test efficiency, they even Fighting continuously in high temperature, plateau, and high cold, encountered severe tests of life and death such as earthquakes, hail, and strong sandstorms.

  On October 14, 2011, the three comrades in the team, Feng Dongxu, Yu Chao, and Zhao Mengsheng, left their youthful lives in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau forever during the plateau experiment. In the face of the sacrifice, the "Three Highs" test team did not stop. They wiped away the tears on their faces, forcibly endured the grief of losing their comrades, and continued to follow their path to complete their unfinished business.

  No struggle is no youth. Since the launch of the "Three Highs" experiment, more than 1,000 young researchers have participated in it, and have carried out more than 2,100 days of special environmental experiments, with a mileage of more than 2 million kilometers, and completed the collection of 260 engine varieties and hundreds of thousands of sets of data. Sorting out and calibrating, applying for more than 90 technical patents, building the world's largest engine operating database, covering the most models, and the most demanding test environment, making important contributions to China's internal combustion engine industry to break the international monopoly and surpass the world's first-class.

2. Let the engine have a "Chinese core"

  Every time he walked past the roaring Weichai engine, Yuan Yi's heartbeat would follow him unconsciously.

  Her husband, Zhao Zhongyu, is a member of the Weichai Youth Technology Innovation Team. He led a team to overcome the "stuck neck" problem of engine localization-the electronic control system, and created a "Chinese core" that is constantly beating on the global power map. Unfortunately, three years ago, Zhao Zhongyu fell ill at his post and never got up.

  Autonomous electronic control system is the "brain" of the engine. People in the industry call it the "Chinese chip". It has been monopolized by foreign countries for a long time and is a major problem that the country needs to break through. Breaking through one minute earlier will be able to install the "Chinese core" for the national power sooner. It is precisely because of this sense of responsibility that in 2008, the Weichai Youth Science and Technology Innovation Team was assigned to independently develop a high-voltage common rail electronic control system (ECU), which opened a path of innovation from scratch.

  At that time, the young doctor Zhao Zhongyu had just joined Weichai and received a consultation call from a colleague of the electronic control station on the train. During the five-hour drive, he kept checking information and studying solutions, and hurried to the work site as soon as he arrived in Weifang.

  This is a road no one has walked, no foundation, no technology, no talent. How difficult is it? Only those who have witnessed it know it best. At the technical exhibition, consultation with industry experts was simple and easy to deal with; without any experience reference, I could only read the English manual... Countless sleepless nights were overthrown again and again. The young team members raced against time and explored boldly. From the basic code writing to the integration of software and hardware, to the final vehicle system verification, a complete, world-class electronic control development method and process flow have been formed.

  Qin Tao, who joined the electronic control R&D team in 2010, clearly remembers that in the test of 20 vehicles, problems such as high fuel consumption and old lights repeatedly appeared, and everyone almost collapsed.

  Follow the car one by one! Zhao Zhongyu, who was in charge of the experiment, made the decision. From the Northeast to Xinjiang and then to Guangzhou, everyone eats and lives on a large truck all the way, and it takes half a year. The problems were resolved one by one, and the customers changed from suspicion to praise one by one.

  In 2012, China's first high-voltage common rail electronic control system was launched in batches, breaking the foreign technology blockade, and Weichai Engine has a veritable "Chinese core".

  In the Chinese market, the price of Weichai engines is 10% higher than that of major European and American competitors, and the market share is still far ahead, with a market share of more than 30% in the field of heavy trucks. "At present, our self-developed electronic control system is no worse than international giants in terms of technical indicators and performance." Qin Tao said proudly. Today, the market supporting volume of "China Core" has exceeded 600,000 units, basically replacing imports. 3. Crack the high-end hydraulic "throat pain"

  "He who has hydraulic parts has the world." There is such a saying in the field of construction machinery. For China's equipment manufacturing industry, high-end hydraulic parts have long relied on imports, and a single suppression or purchase restriction by foreign suppliers will cause domestic enterprises to fall into a state of semi-stop production. Such a fragile industrial chain makes the Chinese people sigh with regret.

  In 2012, Weichai acquired Linde Hydraulics, a global leader in high-end hydraulic technology. In order to promote the implementation of technology, Weichai organized a hydraulic team to exchange in Germany. Young hydraulic engineer Yang Guoxi was one of them.

  When they first arrived in Germany, they were greeted with indifference and perfunctory. It turned out that a nearby factory was acquired by a Japanese company. Two years later, the Japanese took away all the technology and closed the local factory. The members of the Chinese team did not stop due to the rejection of each other, and through continuous communication, they continued to increase the business volume in China. At the same time, Weichai announced that it would build a new Linde Hydraulics plant in Germany. The German side was moved by Weichai's sincerity in developing industries and win-win cooperation, changed its attitude, and the two sides began a real technical cooperation.

  In order to realize the rapid matching of Linde hydraulic products in China, Yang Guoxi led the Chinese team to sort out hundreds of models according to the characteristics of different products, and established a three-dimensional model library, which shortened the matching work that would otherwise take several weeks to two. Hours. This model library is not only promoted among the Chinese team, but the German team can also share resources.

  In 2017, in order to build the "golden industrial chain" of construction machinery, Weichai launched the hydraulic powertrain project. Yang Guoxi was appointed as the technical leader of the Chinese team with his rich professional knowledge and serious work attitude, and issued a "military order". Complete prototype verification within one year. Many people think that this is almost impossible. As a result, Yang Guoxi and the team members "fight"!

  "People can slowly develop to this level. We have to run!" Yang Guoxi often cheered up his companions, as did himself. When eating during the day, he held a burrito in one hand and a mouse in the other. He was still communicating with German engineers until late at night. Under his leadership, the entire team worked hard, sleeplessly, and raced against time.

  In the process of localization, the Weichai Hydraulics team faced various problems such as insufficient capabilities of domestic suppliers, restricted sales of foreign equipment, and malicious competition from peers. The more sad the Kaner, the more motivated it can be. In order to realize the product supporting application as soon as possible, team members go to construction sites and mines, debug equipment, and collect data to fully meet the product needs of the Chinese market.

  In order to let high-end hydraulics land in China, they did their best. In response to the differentiated needs of the domestic crawler excavator market, the team members made some adjustments to traditional German products when developing Linde hydraulic systems, especially the major changes in the casting process of the main valve of the 20-ton crawler excavator. Was questioned by the German side.

  In order to prove its strength, Weichai sent the main valve prototype produced by its own casting to Germany for durability impact test. According to the current industry international standards, the maximum number of impacts in the durability impact test of this type of main valve is 2.8 million, and the main valve prototype produced by Weichai has successfully withstood 3 million tests without any quality problems.

  After the project made a breakthrough, Yang Guoxi died of a sudden illness at the age of 32. He used his limited life to write the youth of struggle. With the joint efforts of Yang Guoxi and his team, China finally has its own national weapon in the field of high-end hydraulics.
