Donald Trump has threatened to ban the popular app Tiktok in the US as the White House believes that China can use it for espionage.

Sources to the news agency Reuters now say that US President Donald Trump must have agreed to give Bytedance 45 days to negotiate a possible deal.

Tiktok's owner, the Chinese company Bytedance, has previously said that the app may be sold. Among prospective buyers is American Microsoft - which now states that interest remains, despite Trump's threat of a ban.

Declaration of user data

In a press release, Microsoft assures that they would ensure that all data belonging to US users remains in the US.

The company is interested in purchasing and operating the Tiktok service in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Must take action

According to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, President Trump plans to take action in the coming days to address the national security risks posed by Tiktok and other Chinese software companies.
