The former ANC president and condemned by the 1-O, Jordi Sànchez, will be the general secretary of the new Junts per Catalunya after the rival candidacy, led by Josep Sort, presented his resignation, the party has reported in a statement.

With this, the former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, leads the only candidacy for the presidency of JxCat presented during the founding congress of the party, in which the spokesperson for JxCat in Barcelona, Elsa Artadi, the former minister and condemned by 1-O Jordi Turull, the mayor of Vic (Barcelona), Anna Erra, and Josep Rius.

In this way, the elections for the party's governing bodies, to be held between Friday 7 and Sunday 9 August, will be attended by a single presidential candidate, led by Carles Puigdemont, and a single one for the general secretariat, which led by Jordi Sànchez.

The electoral campaign begins this Monday and will be "completely telematic", in a process in which members will be able to vote from 9 am on Friday, August 7 and until 3 pm on Sunday, August 9.
