A minor suspected of having hit a bus driver who had asked him to wear a mask on Tuesday in Orléans was indicted "for violence against a person in charge of a public service mission", the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday. The alleged assailant, aged 17 and arrested Thursday, was placed under judicial supervision by the children's judge, with a ban on contacting the victim and using public transport in the metropolis of Orléans ( Tao).

The driver of Tao (Keolis group) had been prescribed four days of ITT (total incapacity for work) due in particular to an eye injury. According to the prosecution, the driver had pointed out to the minor that wearing a mask was compulsory in public transport. On July 10 in Bayonne, a bus driver, Philippe Monguillot, died after being violently assaulted by two men, while he wanted to check a passenger's ticket and demanded that three others wear masks. This death had aroused deep emotion and unanimous condemnation. The funeral of the victim had been attended by hundreds of people.
