July 31, 2020 A Grandi company ship will depart for Sicily in the next few days. Migrants who are to be quarantined will be transferred on board. In fact, the envelopes of the call announced on 26 July were opened at the Viminale and the tender was assigned.The ship, which will most likely be moored off the coast of Lampedusa, has a thousand places available: excluding those for shipboard personnel, police forces and Red Cross personnel, it will be able to accommodate between 600 and 700 migrants, starting from those which are currently located in the hotspot on the island and in the center of Porto Empedocle.
Al Viminale is also working on obtaining a second smaller ship to be transferred to Calabria.
Seven positive migrants transferred from Lampedusa
Caution and security. These were the passwords at Lampedusa airport, where 7 positive migrants to Covid were boarded on a plane to Palermo.
Until now they had been in solitary confinement in a room in the Imbriacola district hotspot. Now there are no virus positive people on the island.
Before being boarded, the migrants were placed in an airtight tubing sealed and insulated with the outside. The respirator had been placed next to each one, but always outside the structure.
A Isernia 43 people landed in Lampedusa
The 43 migrants from Lampedusa are already in Isernia and welcomed in the structure managed by the 'Il Geco' Cooperative. Among them are many families with children.
All have undergone negative serological tests, and according to the Covid protocol they will have to make molecular swabs and observe the quarantine.
