Six-time British F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton sees himself racing for a few more years and hopes to see fans at Silverstone next year.

He will try Sunday to win his National Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit for the 7th time and thus increase his chances of winning an equivalent number of world titles to equal, at 35, Michael Schumacher. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the race will take place behind closed doors.

"I look forward to being here next year and with fans as well," Hamilton said Thursday, when asked how many years he still intended to run.

"In terms of years that I have left to run, it's a bit of an unknown factor. The confinement we experienced at the start of the year because of the Covid was negative in many places but at the same time it brought a lot of energy to do something else and to be able to breathe a little. It gave me new energy to maybe go on for longer, "he said.

He has not yet renewed his contract with his Mercedes team for next year.

“I want to continue at the level I am now but there is also a point where physically and mentally you start to decline. I don't know when that will happen but I don't see it happening in the next two or three years,” he said. he added.

Hamilton, who is the only black driver in F1, also stressed that "there are currently no other drivers from my background and I am aware of that". Lewis Hamilton has repeatedly taken public positions against racism and criticized the F1 world for not doing enough in this area.

The drivers must reaffirm their commitment in this area during the Silverstone event even if certain differences have appeared between them on their precise nature.
