A Yemeni government source told Al-Jazeera that the Saudi authorities handed President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council a new version of the Riyadh agreement.

The source added that the new formula for the agreement includes starting a new government with the participation of the Transitional Council and political components.

According to the same source, the transitional council made promises to cancel the declaration of self-administration if the agreement was reached. The government source also confirmed that the Yemeni president asked the Saudi side for guarantees to implement what the transitional council will sign.

The source concluded that the Saudi side is intensifying its consultations in Riyadh and urging the two parties to sign the agreement soon.

A Yemeni government source has previously said to Al-Jazeera that Hadi stipulated the abolition of the UAE-backed transitional council, announcing self-management in the southern provinces in order to implement the Riyadh agreement.

The "transitional" that controls the temporary capital, Aden, and areas in the south, announced on April 26 last year, "self-administration" in the southern provinces, which was met by local, Arab and international rejection, and added to the tension in relations with the legitimate government that described the coup.
