Peskov noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin “has never come forward with any initiatives, appeals or actions in order for Russia to rejoin the work of the G7.

The press secretary recalled that "there was such a format as the G8, which was supposed to hold its summit in Sochi, but the participants refused to come to Sochi," and, according to Peskov, since then Putin "has never initiated any kind of recreation ".

Peskov stressed that Russia "does not seek to join the G7."

“Russia has repeatedly said that we are very satisfied with the effectiveness of work in such formats as the G20,” he said.

Which, as the Kremlin spokesman noted, "better meet modern, perhaps, economic realities from the point of view of centers of economic development in the world."

“How can, for example, discuss some, let's say, world destinies in the field of economy, social development or something else, or politics without the participation of India, without the participation of China, without the participation of Brazil, without the participation of Turkey, a number of other countries , - said Peskov.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Germany opposes the return of Russia to the G7 summit until the situation with Crimea and Ukraine is resolved.

Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, commented on this statement by Maas in an interview with RT.
