After the emergence of new cases of the new Corona virus (Covid-19) in Da Nang, central Vietnam, the authorities have evacuated about 80,000 people from the region, and airlines have intensified their flights to evacuate people from the tourist area, according to local media reported yesterday.

Thousands of Vietnamese tourists are trying to leave the tourist city after the first recorded community infection with the virus in Vietnam in more than three months.

The social separation measures were reimposed in Da Nang, after three cases of HIV infection were registered, ending the 99-day non-registration of community infection cases.

A Vietnamese citizen was infected with the virus in Da Nang last Friday, after 50 people who had been mixed with him were isolated. The condition of the man rapidly deteriorated, and he was placed on a ventilator. Two people have been confirmed to have contracted the virus since then, but there are fears that numbers will rise in the coming days.

The hospital where the patient was treated was closed. The city closed its airport to international flights, and suspended domestic tourism for at least two weeks.

Nguyen Tien Hong, deputy director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Da Nang, told local media that a large number of people who had contact with the man showed symptoms of the Corona virus.

It is noteworthy that Vietnam has so far succeeded in confronting the virus, with only 420 cases recorded, and no deaths recorded.
