  • After the shooting that took place in front of a supermarket in the Moulins district in Nice, Prime Minister Jean Castex promised that he would come to Nice.
  • “Concrete announcements” in the face of “unacceptable” violence will be made when he comes.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced this Thursday in Besançon that he would go "very soon" to Nice where a shooting took place in broad daylight, adding that the government would make "concrete announcements" in the face of "unacceptable" violence.

"This is an essential, major subject," said the head of government, questioned by journalists about several episodes of violence that have taken place in recent days, including a shooting, Monday, in broad daylight, in front of a supermarket in the sensitive area of Les Moulins in Nice, known in particular for being a place of drug trafficking in the city.

"Inadmissible acts"

“There are deeply inadmissible acts. I will be going to Nice very soon and we will make concrete announcements to fight against these unacceptable acts, ”continued Jean Castex, on the sidelines of a trip to Besançon for youth employment.

In Nice, a video posted online by a resident of the Moulins district shows a shooting and shows men running in the distance, under the watchful eyes of customers at the entrance of the establishment.

The fight against insecurity is one of its priorities

The mayor (LR) of Nice, Christian Estrosi, asked Monday for "additional resources" and an "immediate action plan to restore order", deeming the situation of the Moulins district "very worrying".

Jean Castex has made the fight against insecurity one of his priorities. In his statement of general policy on July 15, he had promised "a firm and uncompromising response" to "unacceptable facts which exasperate the French", citing the violence "committed in the Grésilles and Chenôve districts in Dijon, 'despicable attack on a bus driver in Bayonne, the ambushes extended to the representatives of the police and our firefighters in certain neighborhoods, the trafficking at the bottom of the stairwells, the trivialization of everyday delinquency " .
