Spanish coach Robert Moreno, 42, was sacked on Saturday by AS Monaco and will be replaced by Croatian Niko Kovac, a former Bayern Munich player, sources close to the Principality club have learned, confirming information from The Team.

Arrived in Monaco at the end of 2019 to replace the Portuguese Leonardo Jardim, Robert Moreno, former coach of the Spanish team and under contract with the club of the Principality until June 2022, will therefore have managed only ten matches of Ligue 1, without qualifying the club for a European cup.

His successor, Niko Kovac, was free since his dismissal from Bayern in the middle of last season. At 48, he knows Monaco's new sports director Paul Mitchell very well, who worked last season at RB Leipzig.

After leading the team in Bruges this Friday in a friendly (2-0), Moreno led the training session on Saturday morning before being warned of his dismissal, as well as that of his staff, by the club management.

In addition to Moreno, his five assistants, Dani Guindos, Carlos Martinez Juanjo del Ojo, José Sambade and Marc Selleres will also leave AS Monaco.
