July 16, 2020 The meeting in Brussels between Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and French President Emmanuel Macron lasted just under an hour, on the eve of the extraordinary European Council on the Recovery Fund and the EU's multi-annual budget. The face-to-face took place in the Louise neighborhood hotel which houses both.

"We have the clarity and we share the need for everything to be finalized as soon as possible. It is complicated because we are 27," said Conte at the end of the meeting. 

"It is not an accounting game, Europe is at stake"

"We face the issue politically and we will find a solution"
"If we face the issue politically, and not just economically, we will find a solution. If we think we are discussing a few million more or less, we will lose the global challenge with China and the United States." So Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte speaking with journalists in Brussels.
