Laurent Joffrin leaves the leadership of Liberation to embark on politics and he will publish Monday a call for the "recomposition of the left", already signed by a hundred people "known or not," he told AFP. .

Mr. Joffrin relinquishes his duties as editorial director, publication director and co-manager of Liberation. "I will continue to write for the newspaper, chronicles, editorials and my + political + daily letter," he said on Thursday, adding that he was looking for "no elective office" but rather to "refound the speech of a democratic left, a realistic left ".

The call he will launch Monday during a press conference in Paris has already been signed by hundreds of people, "known or not", including "philosophers, sociologists, experts, comedians, crétateurs, activists d 'associations, some unionists ... ", he said.

"If nothing changes, the scenario for 2022 is written in advance. In the second round, we will have Le Pen / Macron," he added, adding that he wanted to create a political "association". Mr. Joffrin will also soon publish a book called "Anti-Macron" (at Stock).

Mr. Joffrin must also send a letter Friday morning to the staff of Liberation in which he explains why he leaves the management of the newspaper to play politics, he said.

A source from the Society of Journalists and Liberation Personnel (SJPL) told AFP on Thursday that she was asking for her "resignation this evening".

According to the SJPL, "Paul Quinio will be acting director of publication".

Mr. Joffrin said that he could be replaced in his duties by Dov Alfon, former editor-in-chief of the Israeli left-wing daily Haaretz, for which he now ensures correspondence in Paris.
